Biography
Artist – Painter – Art TeacherEfi Koukma was raised in Kavala, in northern Greece, and works as a painter. She took her first steps in art in the studios of her father, the painter George Koukmas, and her grandfather, John Koukmas, also a painter in Kavala.
She graduated with honours from the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna, Italy, where she studied for five years in the workshop of the painter G. Modica.
Her work treats the urban landscape in a distinctive way, conveying with vivid immediacy the speed of the streets and the dazzling light of the big city. It unfolds a concern for defending a quality of everyday life that is being lost in the pace of our time. Painting images of the city with an expressionist spirit, she shapes a visual language of the city that mirrors the way people live today.
Her paintings, dominated by urban landscapes, have been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. Works of hers are found in public spaces in Kavala and in private and corporate collections, and she has collaborated with the galleries “Atrion” and “Artion” in Thessaloniki.
She lives in Kavala, where she keeps her painting studio, while also teaching art in secondary education.
